We’re trying something new here at Couch Geek. We’re calling it Saturday Shorts. We will scour the internet every day for our favorite short films, then on Saturdays you get to see our top pick. This one is called “The Ark” by Grzegorz Jonkajtys of Poland. Watch it and you’ll see why we picked it as our favorite. Let us know if you like it and if want to see more. Enjoy!

Normally I love me some Guillermo Del Toro, but right off I see Transformers, Aliens, Voltron, Mechassault and Just about every giant robot movie, comic book or video game. Even though I’m rating this a maybe I will check it out because it is after all Guillermo Del Toro and he can’t do any worse than that Battleship disaster from last summer. No amount of washing will ever clean the stink from that one.

In this movie it looks like civilization is under attack by another cranky alien creature bent on destroying the planet, and the survival of our species depends on the actions of an elite group of special people with special weapons and special skills.

Check out the trailer and tell us what you think.

Developed by Bioware and published by Electronic Arts, Mass Effect 3 is scheduled for a U.S. release on March 6, 2012, March 8, 2012 for Australia, and March 9, 2012 for Europe. This chapter in the Mass Effect franchise will follow the Mass Effect 2 DLC, “Arrival”. This time commander Shepard and the rest of the galaxy will take on the invincible Reapers. This version sports a new combat and cover system, and improved AI.

Players will have the option to import files from Mass Effect 2 opening up about 1,000 variables, otherwise players will experience a fresh game with no origin. A four player multiplayer combat mode called Galaxy at War will also be available, but you wont be able to play as any of the single player characters. Players will have to create brand new characters. You can play as human or non-human characters including krogans, drell, salarians, asari, and turians, each with their own set of special powers. multiplayer missions will affect the single player campaign which looks to be deeper and more difficult than the previous two versions.

We here at couch geek are eagerly awaiting this game and are especially excited about the Kinect functionality which will allow players to control the game using their voice. This should dramatically change the gameplay and make it more immersive. Imagine not having to pause the game to open menus to change weapon or use powers. Characters will respond to your voice commands, order them to cover you, take cover or use special powers and weapons. People will be buying the Kinect just so they can play this game!

The Mass Effect 3 demo will be available for download on Valentine day February 14, 2012 for XboxPS3PC, and will include multiplayer mode. Get it and shoot us a line to tell us what you think. As always you can send us your question, suggestions or ideas. You can find us on twitter at or Facebook at
